Hello everyone! I have never blogged before…so here we go! I’m Megan Garbarino and I am a senior Psychology Major (with the intention of doing a minor in Sociology). My goal is to go to graduate school for Occupational Therapy in the fall (fingers crossed!). Occupational therapy is so intriguing to me especially since we take everyday tasks for granted. We rarely stop to think about how ordinarily “simple” tasks, such as tying our shoes or buttoning our shirt, can be when one is disabled or injured. This is what fueled my interest in OT and made it the career I want to pursue in life. Watching someone gradually improve, whether mentally or physically, is such a rewarding and inspiring experience. I would love to be a part of that journey.

I love music and singing. I am the president of an a cappella group here on campus, called the Supernovas. I usually devote much of my time to that. I also participate in Relay for Life each year, especially since the cause hits close to home when one of my best friends was diagnosed with Leukemia last fall. I love surrounding myself with friends and family. That is truly my passion in life. I don’t feel a day is complete until I have at least one fit of hysterical laughter with someone I love.

I decided to take Intro to Disability Studies because I thought it would be a really interesting class and I finally had free electives to take the classes I wanted. I thought this class would greatly help me in the field of OT and I thought it would be a great learning experience for me. I do not know much about disability studies and my hope is that this class will help me become more informed and expose me to things outside of my comfort zone. I have not been involved in Level before, but I am very excited to be working with the organization! I can’t wait to start my Level hours and to meet my partner! I’m looking forward to becoming more knowledgeable about Level and about all of the topics we are going to cover in this course. It is going to be a great semester!
